Images are a very important part of our blogging journey! They are the first things that our readers see on our blog posts and our social media. It is important that we not only have great images, but we also need great graphic design tools too!
I know not everyone has access to the high end products and applications, so I thought I’d create a list of my four favorite graphic design tools!
The inner photographer and graphic designer in me prefers Photoshop. I know how to use it and it comes easy to me. I like that I can create anything I set my mind to, using this product. I almost always use Photoshop CC for all of my blog photos and my printables. Unfortunately, this particular graphic design tool does cost money 🙁 BUT don’t let that stop you just yet, they also offer free trials and a student/teacher discount. You have the option to purchase this tool for 1 month or more, so you can decide if it’s for you! Another downside of photoshop is that it doesn’t provide you with free images. It’s great for creating textured backgrounds or editing your own photos! Through an online tutorial, I was able to figure out how to create the marble background below. Here’s a sample of the kind of image you can create using Photoshop.
Cava is another great design tool! When you go to make a new design, you can pick from a bunch of templates: social media, presentation, poster, Facebook cover, Facebook post, blog graphic, A4, and more. Once you’ve picked a template you will see sample layouts that you can choose from, or you can trash them and start from scratch! Canva has many free pieces to include in your image, but a majority of them are $1 each. I really like Canva if you’re unable to use photoshop. You’re able to upload your own images and then place Canva text and overlays on top of those. Below is an example of what you can make on Canva. I did not use a provided layout, but I did use all free Cava pieces.
3. Pic Monkey
PicMonkey is another great product! I don’t use it very often, but I know many bloggers that do! PicMonkey has a free version and a premium option. There is a lot you can do with this tool. One thing that I do like about PicMonkey is that it is also an image editor. You can edit the exposure, add effects, and even remove blemishes. As far as graphic design tools go, they’ve got these as well. You will find that you can add text, overlays, frames, textures, and themes to your images too. Similar to Photoshop, PicMonkey does not come with free images either. You can use your own or create backgrounds using this application. Below is an example of what you can create using PicMonkey. I used all free design options, and the background is one of the free textures as well.
4. Adobe Post
Adobe Post is by far my favorite graphic design phone application. It is perfect for when you need to create something on the go! Similar to Canva, this application also has “remix posts” that are predesigned and you just edit to your liking. Adobe Post also has a large variety of free photos. If you don’t like any of the “remix posts,” you can also start from scratch. You have the option of taking your own photos, picking a photo from your library, searching the free photos, connecting with Lightroom, or connecting with Creative Cloud. Once you decide on a photo, you have the ability to edit it, add text, add shapes, and more. Below is an example of an image you can create using Adobe Post. I used all free photos and add on’s offered by Adobe Post.
Well, there you have it! Four of my favorite graphic design tools! As far as I know, the first three are only available on the computer, and Adobe Post is only available in the iPhone app store.
I hope this is a great resource for you! I’d love to see if you decide to create graphics with one of these tools!
