Can I just say….
AHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (That doesn’t even convey my (our) excitement!!
A little over a week ago, Caleb asked me to me his WIFE for LIFE! Why’d we wait to announce? We wanted to tell our family and friends in person (as many as we could). We wanted to make it special and share the joy with everyone in person!
I thought’d I’d share our story, since many have asked how he did it! I’m also keeping this blog, not only to share holistic ideas, stories, etc., but as a virtual scrapbook of memories for us as well!
So… here’s our engagement story. Enjoy!
It’s 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014.
I awaken to a note from Caleb.
I’m a numbers person.. I’m always adding numbers together to make new numbers and such. So the date: 5.23.14 …
if you rearrange those numbers..it’s 12345…OR 5 (for the month of May). (the 23rd) 2+3 = 5. (the year 2014) 1+4 = 5…triple 5’s….This probably makes no sense to anyone but myself… so ….we can resume the story….
The note is describing how much Caleb loves me and how thankful he is for me. Mushy Mushy. 😉
At the bottom, it says I have until 10:30 to get dressed in a casual outfit and would be spending the day with my mom! I was to pick up a package from Caleb’s work, and then I would be off to my first destination for a few hours.
“What’s happening?” I asked my mom.
“I know nothing” – Mom coy smile
(I proceeded to bombard her with questions regarding the days events…no answers. Sigh)
We headed off to Caleb’s work where his mom was…Caleb was no where to be seen. Teary eye’d from excitement because I feel like I know what’s happening, his mom hands me an envelope and says I’m off to The Brass Armadillo (my favorite antique mall where Caleb and I have had many fun dates). The envelope was money for my mom and I to enjoy our day!
We spent hours browsing every aisle, looking for unique, special things when BAM! I found something that I have been looking for for over a year! A vintage, teal typewriter. I find them beautiful and a great conversation piece for (OUR!…AH!) future home!
After our big haul, we loaded up the car. Alas! Another note! My mom’s so slick…
This note told me told have a great lunch (destination undisclosed) and to return home after. I was to be dressed in a fancy dress and ready by 4:30 when a “special guest” would be arriving! Naturally, I thought the special guest was him. I hadn’t seen him all day!
As we drove off to lunch (which mom knew where to go) I started to guess. It didn’t take long until I realized…we were going to where Caleb and I had first met over 4 and a half years ago. tear
^^ This picture was taken the night I knew I was going to marry Caleb. I’m allll the way on the right with my hood up. In this picture, we hadn’t met. We never had seen each other before. That’s Caleb in the middle, playing the guitar with his plaid shirt. The girl sitting in the middle on the floor is Katie. I caught Caleb’s glance a couple times during his set. But you know when they say..”When you know, you know!” It was totally that. I texted 3 people during the first song saying, “This is the guy I’m going to marry”. Naturally, everyone thought I was nuts. After the show, I went to Katie and asked her to introduce me, but he was gone talking to another group. My group had left me and was waiting in the car..so I left. I felt like I had been punched in the stomach the whole way home, holding back tears. I dropped my friends off…and then around 11:00 p.m. Katie writes a status about how great the night was…and Caleb and I both comment on it. This is ONE instance I’m very grateful for Facebook. The rest is history!
We ate lunch, and zipped home. I got ready, and the doorbell rang. It was my wonderful, beautiful friend Tina. I screamed a bit. I was so excited to see her, and so anxious to know what she knew about the events to come!
Every year, Caleb and I take photos in the same place. To document how we’ve changed and to see how far we’ve come. She said that Caleb had arranged a photoshoot since it had been about a year since our last photos were taken. I asked mom if dad knew anything about tonight…she VERY convincingly said No! I believed her, but my heart sunk into my stomach. Oh well, we’d get our photos for the year and have a great time..no need to worry about a proposal maybe or maybe not happening!
The doorbell rang again…. !
I peeked through the blinds….Caleb!
Finally!…but no ring box to be seen in his pockets..ha…STILL OK! Still chillin and bein’ cool ova here!
The three of us embark on our journey to our “spot”…and get lost. Baha!
Fast forward about 45 min and we’ve arrived! HA! (I promise you we get lost every time trying to find it…but I suppose there’s something magical in that)
We all slowly get out of the car..me fixing my hair and Caleb preparing for our first photo.
We got situated in our pose….then BOOM! Down on one knee he goes and it’s like I had tunnel vision. I can’t really explain the rush of emotions…such a whirlwind! I had convinced myself that it wasn’t going to happen…then it did!!
Caleb proposed and asked me to be his wife..and I said THANK YOU!! .. I MEAN YESYESYES!
With my Dads, Moms, Papas, and Nanas approval (Caleb received pre-proposal), we will be getting married on October 9th, 2014
exactly 5 years to the day of meeting!
I think I was in shock for about two days.. I always knew this would happen..even before we officially met. But to have it REALLY happen was just so crazy. I feel so blessed that I get to marry my best friend, soul mate, and partner in crime. I’ve been pretty excited about many things, but to be starting our very own little family of 2 is on a whole new, unexplainable level of pure happiness, joy, and excitement.
Thank you for reading our story!
a.k.a…The FUTURE Mrs. Corkern
This photo is how we told a few of our close friends..just to make it fun!
