Are you dreaming of starting your own blog? Are you scouring the internet looking for tips on Pinterest? Fantasizing about the perfect name? I’m going to tell you the one thing you really need if you want to succeed…
Are you ready?
It sounds cliche but it is so true! I was recently looking up some statistics and found an article that said most newbie bloggers quit in the first 90 days. They didn’t link to the source, so I don’t know if this is true, but it makes sense with the huge number of abandoned blogs out there.
Passion is what sees you through when you are tired, when you don’t feel like writing, when you have a million things to do and only an hour to get it all done. Passion is the feeling that if you don’t talk about a topic you might explode.
Starting a business you are not passionate about is a quick way to learn about failure. You don’t have to be passionate about writing, but you need to have a passion for your topic. You need to be able to speak in depth about your niche, and even if you are not the best writer, if you write with passion people will respond.
So, how do you find your passion? Look at the overlap between your interests and your skills. The beauty of the internet is you can really start a blog about anything. Love to talk about raising chickens? You can blog about that! Want to explore drawing Zentagle wall art? You can blog about that! Want to share your journey through post-partum depression? You can blog about that!
Think about your passion as the intersection of what makes you happy and what you are fascinated with. This is the place where you won’t get bored, where you will love doing the research and won’t get bogged down writing new posts.
So there you go, the secret to success as a blogger was with you all along. Now go out and find your passion! If you need some help figuring out your passion, you can download the Finding Your Passion Worksheet here.
