Hello my beautiful friend!
This post is going to be FULL of…stuff. The good, the bad and the ugly of what’s been going on around here lately. Brace yourself!
So if you’ve been following along on SnapChat (@ohohamyjo) you may have seen that our home is in complete shambles at the moment. I’ve been documenting the process as we go along and as I’m typing this, we’re getting CABINETS PEOPLE! So exciting 🙂
We just bought our first house (yay!) and are completely remodeling it (double yay!). But holy smokes, it’s been a ride! Actually, if I’m being honest, it’s been really fun. We’ve gotten to walk about Home Depot and pick out exactly how our house will look from the floors, to the entire kitchen, to the paint colors. I could get used to that!
I even got to knock down a wall…here’s my personal touch:
Super glamorous, right? :p
In the midst of moving and remodeling, we ran away to the West Palm Beach…then the Bahamas…then West Palm Beach again…then Disneyworld. Epic vaca? Indeed!
Now, before you think we’re TOTALLY crazy, we had this trip booked way before we found our house. The timing was just perfectly… insane haha! Not to mention the awful hurricane that just hit the Bahamas, it’s been a little stressful (we outran Hurricane Matthew by less than 2 days.)
Now that you have a little of the back story, let’s get down to the business side.
I wrapped up working with my 1:1 clients in September so that I could take a month off and fully focus on our move, our remodel, and our vacation happenin’s. I still had several workshops I was teaching here in the city that kept me busy busy, but for the most part everything was manageable.
Now, I have a tendency to go go go and crash (I knowwww I know, tisk tisk). So I really needed a complete reboot here. I had been working with clients from Australia to Canada to the UK and everywhere in between. It was a great year in business and I was fully ready to take time off, regroup and come back fresh.
But that’s not exactly what happened.
You see, a LOT happened in the first year of business that I liked, and a LOT that I didn’t like. Here’s what I mean…
In the first year, I accomplished so many of my goals:
- Doing 2 segments of Live TV!
- Becoming a Huffington Post writer
- Doubling my 9-5 income within the first 6 months
- Launching an international business…I mean…that was kinda the main goal 🙂
- Booking my first retainer clients before launching that option
- Selling out workshop seats
- Launching my Podcast & being on the New & Noteworthy list by Episode 3
So. Many. Cool. Things!
When you first start out, you’re navigating how YOU want to run your business and deciding what lights you up and what doesn’t. I had jumped into entrepreneurship in June of 2015 after leaving a soul-sucking (and I say that lightly) job. I quit with no game plan, no clients, and no idea where I would be a year later. I just knew I had to escape.
So I found myself in a place of “I’m pretty good at this, so I should do that”. I began mindset coaching female entrepreneurs. I have been a serial entrepreneur since birth (hello 5 year old lemonade stand!) I fully knew how hard it was to start your own business and wanted to be that stepping stone to help new female entrepreneurs make their journey easier.
The more I worked with clients, the more I learned who I wanted to work with and who I didn’t, what I wanted to coach and teach, and what I didn’t. As my business grew (and as I grew myself) I noticed myself working more with women who were starting their business and needing online help (websites, social media platforms, blogging, etc). And I ADORED it. In fact, I landed my first few retainer clients who wanted me specifically as their blog coach, before I had even started offering blogging packages, website customization, etc! It saw it as an intuitive nudge to navigate this direction in business.
I didn’t even know blog coaching was a thing people! I had slowly started business coaching (helping women design their offerings, website, marketing, etc) and always encouraged each to have a blog attached to their website. From there, more and more wanted blog coaching. And there, things began to blossom….
So I re-aligned. I talk about realigning quit a bit (because I fully believe it’s a constant that needs to happen in your business and life to keep you sane). I realized I didn’t like AT ALL how I had been doing business. I didn’t like AT ALL how I THOUGHT I SHOULD be doing business. And I didn’t like AT ALL what business had become to me.
I teach my clients to do business in a way that feels GOOD to them, but I wasn’t taking my own advice. The reason? Because I felt like I had built something that couldn’t be changed. I felt stuck in my own creation.
And that’s never true. Ever.
You’re FULLY in control of your life and your business. What you have built (or are building) is ALWAYS able to be changed. Don’t worry about looking ‘silly’ or feeling like no one would take you seriously. JUST DO IT!
So I did it.
And I’m not sorry. I’m not sorry for not charging an arm and a leg for working with me. I’m not sorry for giving away free stuff. I’m not sorry for marketing in a way that feels good to me and doesn’t include pushing numbers and figures around constantly. I’m not sorry that I actually want to give value and not expect sales from it every single time.
What I AM, is genuinely intrigued and motivated by helping other women succeed.
Competition doesn’t exist to me. Collaboration does. Which is why I’ve done so many Summits, Podcasts, Join Venture Webinars, etc. Because I fully believe that women are powerful and DESERVE everything they want in this life. I believe that women should NEVER settle for something they don’t fully desire. I believe that which you desire is meant for you NOW, not ‘someday.”
Your job is to make that happen.
Your job is to BELIEVE it’s possible for you.
You job is to GO AFTER your goals, head on.
Because if not now? When?
So that’s what I did. Full on.
I designed packages that feel perfectly perfect to me. That are priced where I want them to be, not where others tell me they should be. I work with women who match my energy perfectly and we jive so well together. And together? We make a killer brand experience, blog, and social media strategy that feels good to her, speakers her soul, and sets her business up for abundant success.
We make the future possible.
Whether that means creating a site that has the ability to have membership access (aka residual/passive income), courses, packages…whatever her goals are in the future for her business, we bring them to life.
How could I NOT be so excited for work every day?
Sometimes, all we need is fresh air (aka a beach), some sun, and a little re-alignment to remind you of who you are and the part your business plays in the world.
Sending rainbows and sunshine your way,
xo Amy Jo
